My art life began in my 20’s as a fiber artist, constructing mixed media assemblages. After 15 years as a professional fiber artist, I began working with cast paper, primarily in the vessel form, combining paper, paint and various materials. The vessel form led to working in clay.
I now combine paper and clay into a paperclay material, which I use to construct sculptures. These forms are painted, collaged, drawn on and into. My interest for 40 years in both my work of paper and clay, is in layering. They are palimpsests, layers that reveal and conceal. Processes of painting, marking, covering over and scratching through are repeated. They are explorations of time, of finding fragments, of loss and retrieval.
