Betsy Williams/enbi studio

The majority of my pieces are wood-fired in a kiln I designed and built in 2024-25 together with my apprentice, Tori Nicoletti. In the early days of the pandemic, encouraged by my husband, Mark Saxe - who drove while I pointed out when to stop - I embarked on a research project into New Mexico raw materials. This research, now in its sixth year, is ongoing, and samples number over 200. The ultimate goal is to transition to 100% local materials - clays, glazes, and underglaze pigment - in the very near future. The subtle, miraculous beauty of these naturally occurring deposits has invested my work with depth of purpose.
